Electrak XD is designed for applications where conventional electric actuators may not provide enough force, stroke, duty cycle or environmental resistance. It is a heavy-duty electric linear actuator for demanding mechanisms where hydraulic cylinders are often used.

Compared with hydraulic systems, an electric actuator can reduce system complexity, remove the need for hydraulic oil, lower leakage risk, simplify installation and make motion easier to control. Electrak XD or Electrak HD?

Electrak HD is a strong heavy-duty actuator for many industrial and mobile applications. Electrak XD should be selected when the application requires a higher load range, longer stroke, higher duty cycle or greater reserve for hydraulic replacement projects.

If the application requires a lower force range or a shorter stroke, Electrak HD, Electrak MD, Electrak LL or another Thomson actuator series may be more appropriate. If the requirement is up to 25 kN dynamic load, up to 1200 mm stroke and advanced onboard electronics, Electrak XD is often the better choice.

Control, feedback and diagnostics

Electrak XD offers several control and feedback configurations. Depending on the selected option, it can provide low-level signal motor switching, position feedback, force feedback, end-of-stroke indication, programmable end-of-stroke limits, CANopen or SAE J1939 communication.

The actuator includes onboard electronics and monitoring functions that help protect the actuator and machine. Current monitoring, voltage monitoring, temperature monitoring, overload protection and software-controlled end-of-stroke limits can reduce the need for external protection components and simplify machine integration.

Manual override, brake and shock load options

Electrak XD includes an internal load holding brake, which helps hold the load when the actuator is stopped. This is especially important for vertical or load-holding applications where uncontrolled movement or drift must be avoided.

A manual override option allows the actuator to be moved in case of power failure. Optional shock load dampening can be useful in applications where the actuator may experience impact loads or harsh mechanical conditions. These features are important when replacing hydraulic cylinders in real mobile or industrial equipment.
